Norbrook addresses complex respiratory disease in sows at 2022 World Pork Expo

Antibiotics play an important role in managing viral-bacterial diseases and keeping sows productive.

LENEXA, Kansas (May 18, 2022)
Increased outbreaks of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and other respiratory diseases on sow farms are often exacerbated by bacterial co-infections, leading to more severe, year-round health challenges for producers and veterinarians to deal with. When vaccines alone can’t prevent respiratory health challenges from occurring, veterinarians are finding that fast-acting, broad-spectrum antibiotics can play an important role in saving sows.

“Swine veterinarians are finding that cephalosprin antibiotics, such as Cefenil® RTU (ceftiofur hydrochloride sterile suspension) from Norbrook®, can be highly effective in helping to manage secondary bacterial infections that compound viral respiratory disease on sow farms,” says Megan Bollin, DVM, swine technical services veterinarian for Norbrook®. “In recent years, we’ve seen that Cefenil® RTU has become an important tool for veterinarians seeking broad-spectrum coverage to treat respiratory disease and return sows back to production.”

To learn more about how generic Cefenil® RTU can be used to better manage respiratory disease breaks on sow farms, stop by the Norbrook® booth during World Pork Expo and visit with Dr. Bollin and the Norbrook® Swine Team. They can tell you more about the technical aspects of Cefenil® RTU, including its short withdrawal time and other characteristics.
