Leadership Beyond Measure: Celebrating Emily McVey and the Corridor Board

I took time off over the 4th of July holiday weekend to be surrounded by family and blessings. It reminded me how fortunate I am to have such a full life outside of work. But it also made me think of all the gratitude I have for my work with the animal health industry. At the top of this list of blessings is my colleague Emily McVey and the Animal Health Corridor Board.

It is important to take time to tell the people around you how important they are to you. Acknowledge how you see them not only for the tremendous work they accomplish but also for their whole person. Emily is a creative thinker, gifted marketer, strategic problem solver, relationship builder, and does everything with heart. She is trustworthy and authentic. Emily is also a mom, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I see how she gracefully juggles all her roles to remain present to her family as well as her career.

I am also fortunate to have current and past Corridor Board members as friends, allies, mentors, and role models. These industry leaders give their time and talents selflessly to advance the industry and the KC region.

As a leader, it is important to make sure your team is supported and to take time to celebrate their successes and contributions. That could be by listening, ensuring they have the resources needed, removing obstacles for them, and advocating for them. Supporting your team boosts morale and reinforces a positive team culture where everyone feels valued and recognized for their contributions. I am thankful for all the board members—past and present—who have always supported the Corridor team in this way.

As we head into our busiest month, I am thankful and blessed that Emily is on the team. Having a leader like Emily who embodies creativity, strategic thinking, and genuine heart is an asset to the Corridor, the animal health industry and the KC region.

This industry is better because of the work that Emily does and because of the selfless leadership of the Corridor Board.
