by BioKansas | Apr 03, 2020

[OVERLAND PARK, KS, April 3, 2020] In an effort to better support the State’s COVID-19 response, Kansas Manufacturing Solutions and BioKansas have partnered to identify manufacturing assets across the state of Kansas that have the capacity to produce critical supplies. This effort will provide valuable information to enable a more coordinated effort to bring additional supplies and resources to healthcare providers, manufacturers, and scientists throughout Kansas. Manufacturers can participate in the data collection by visiting https://www.biokansas.org/page/covid19manufacturing and clicking on the “share manufacturing capabilities” image.

Kansas Manufacturing Solutions (KMS) is the Kansas Center for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Program. Every state in the United States, and Puerto Rico, has a MEP Center similar to KMS.  The MEP National Network is mobilizing information resources and other direct assistance to manufacturers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“At the national level, the MEP leadership has a direct LINE to the White House and the COIVD-19 taskforce,” says Tiffany Stovall, Kansas Manufacturing Solutions CEO.  “KMS and our peer Centers around the country are providing the taskforce lists of manufacturers who may be able to manufacture critical needs supplies.  We are reaching out to Kansas manufacturers to understand if they can help.”

BioKansas, the non-profit life science organization for the state of Kansas, was mobilizing a team of volunteers to identify manufacturers that could rapidly scale up and retool operations while also sourcing support for manufactures to address barriers preventing their ability manufacture goods to meet the state’s supply shortages.

"Understanding the state, its unique needs, and where resources may exist is critical for providing a rapid response to address state and local supply shortages," said Sonia M. Hall, PhD; President & CEO of BioKansas. "Through this partnership, we’re able to leverage the broad connections and extensive expertise of Kansas Manufacturing Solutions in combination with generous volunteer support from the BioKansas community to rapidly collect data on key assets while also identifying ways to support manufacturers. If you’re a Kansas manufacturer, you don’t have to wait for us to reach out. You can register to be on the critical needs supply list right now."
