On September 19th we celebrated 100 Years of Animal Health Anchored in St. Joseph at a site-wide event where we gathered employees, local and state dignitaries, and special guests from four community organizations connected to the purpose and people of the St. Joseph site.

A century of innovation and growth

100 years ago, in 1917, with the founding of the Anchor Serum company, production of the first-ever hog cholera serum began in St. Joseph. Today the site produces the top selling swine vaccine worldwide. Through the years, BI has continued to invest in the site, including the construction of a world-class manufacturing facility in 1999, its expansion in 2009, and in the past decade a new administrative building and a distribution center. Today, St Joseph is a 60-acre biological research, manufacturing and shipping facility sending 1.2 billion doses of vaccines from 88 antigens to more than 50 countries each year.

The St. Joseph site now employs approximately 1,000 people and is the largest BI Animal Health manufacturing site in the world. The site’s location in the single largest concentration of animal health and nutrition companies in the world – the Kansas City Animal Health Corridor. is also important for our company, our industry, and the entire community.
