Merck Animal Health has added an extra US approval to its Revalor cattle implant range for the second time this year.

The firm gained a supplementary approval from the US FDA for Revalor-XH (trenbolone acetate and estradiol). This additional approval covers a new implant indicated for increased rate of weight gain and improved feed efficiency for up to 200 days after implantation in beef heifers fed in confinement for slaughter.

In March, Merck received marketing authorization for Revalor-XR as an extended-release and delayed-release subcutaneous implant for beef steers and heifers fed in confinement for slaughter.

Merck's implant range also features seven other Revalor products containing trenbolone acetate and estradiol, while other brands of cattle implants include: Zoetis' Synovex; Elanco's Encore and Compudose; and Merck's Ralgro.
