Animal health firms Vetanco and Dr Bata have joined forces in the US to open a new subsidiary.

The new company – BV Science – will join the research, marketing and technical support departments of both firms, operating from a base in St Louis, Missouri.

Dave Zacek has been appointed chief executive of BV Science. Mr Zacek has extensive experience in the animal health industry, working in consultancy and previously holding roles at Novus International, Lohmann Animal Health and Solvay Animal Health. Notably, he was chief executive of Lohmann Animal Health for 12 years from 2000 to 2012.

The scientific and technical department of BV Science will be led by Sherry Layton. Jan Katterhenry has been selected as chief financial officer of the firm.

Vetanco is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Dr Bata is located in Ócsa, Hungary. The firms said: "Our most innovative product lines will now have a presence in the US. Evaluations with our biotechnology developments Biotech Vac and Gamaxine, and our phytobiotics Herbanoplex, Dysantic and Detoxaplus, have already began in various university and corporate research centers around the US."

Vetanco provides a range of products for both pets and livestock, while Dr Bata is focused on pigs, poultry and ruminants.
