Corridor Voices | VP. US Commercial Operations | Merck Animal Health

by Laiya Smith | Mar 14, 2018

Bormann_Scott (2)Greetings and welcome to another dynamic year within the KC Animal Health Corridor!

I’m excited to be serving as your chairman this year, and working collaboratively with members of the animal health industry, speaking with one voice to further initiatives that benefit all of us, as well as the greater Kansas City region. Joyce Lee, U.S. President, Bayer Animal Health, will serve as your board vice chair for 2018. She brings a wealth of industry knowledge and insight to the role.

Like our industry, the KC Animal Health Corridor continues to embrace the pursuit of progress and innovation.  At the center of that pursuit, we welcome three new board members in 2018 – Dr. Carolyn Henry, Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Missouri; Jesper Nordengaard, U.S. President, Hill’s Pet Nutrition, and Scott Davis, Head of Operations – St. Joseph, Boehringer Ingelheim. Congratulations to each new member and we look forward to your contributions.

Our strategic priorities for the year are challenging, dynamic and centered around four key areas.

Industry Engagement

As the foundational pillar, the Corridor continues to advocate locally and globally towards strategic engagement of the animal health industry.

Public Policy Development Efforts

On the state (both Missouri and Kansas) and federal levels, we will support legislation and policies as appropriate, advancing and promoting the KC Animal Health Corridor’s assets and resources. We will do this by leveraging our partnerships with organizations that are primarily focused on public policy for the industry.

Workforce Development

As we look toward the future of the Corridor, it’s imperative we help our industry allies secure and retain the best possible talent. Through our workforce subcommittee, we will provide leadership to local educational providers about the workforce skills required by the industry, as well as deploy a national career awareness toolkit for educators.

Advancing Innovation

As innovation continues to drive change, fostering innovation became a strategic imperative. The KC Animal Health Investment Forum and hosting targeted venture capital groups in the Corridor are two such priorities of advancing innovation.  Serving as a conduit of innovation and technological advancement advances our industry.
